Cantabrian Chamois hunting country

Hunting in Spain

Cantabrian Chamois

Cantabrian chamois hunting takes place in steep, open mountain terrain with long slopes, broken ridgelines, and wide valleys that require careful observation. Much of the day is spent glassing from vantage points, picking apart large sections of country before committing to a move.

Once a mature chamois is located, the hunt becomes about using the shape of the terrain to close the distance efficiently. Stalks tend to be more direct and physical, with frequent elevation changes and limited cover. Cantabrian chamois hunts reward fitness, patience, and good judgement, offering a demanding but very honest mountain experience.

Good to know

Questions, answered

Typical shooting distance?

Typical shooting distances range from roughly 100 to 400 yards. We take the time to ensure hunters are set up comfortably, shooting from a solid position and using equipment they trust, so every shot can be taken cleanly and confidently.

Can I bow hunt it?

Yes, but it is one of the most challenging species with the bow. All of our guides are active bowhunters and know what’s required to close the distance on these animals.

What rifle/calibre do you recommend?

We recommend calibres from 6.5mm and up. If you plan to bring your own rifle, we’ll discuss the species beforehand and make sure your setup is appropriate. We also have mountain rifles available, all chambered in 7mm PRC.

What level of fitness do I require?

A medium to high level of fitness is required for this hunt. Limited road access in many areas means hiking from lower elevations into higher mountain terrain.

“Since the moment we arrived, Alex, Jessica and all the staff were kind and welcoming. They take care of every single detail. The room was warm and comfy… All the meals were fresh, homemade and superb!”
