Barbary Sheep hunting country

Hunting in Spain

Barbary Sheep

Barbary sheep hunting in Alicante takes place in dry, rugged mountain country shaped by cliffs, deep ravines, and wide, sun-baked slopes. Much of the day is spent glassing across large expanses of open terrain, locating rams as they move through broken ground and along rocky faces.

Once a mature ram is identified, the hunt becomes a careful balance of distance and timing, using the folds of the terrain and limited cover to work into range. Stalks can be demanding and exposed, often involving steep climbs and long approaches.

Questions, answered

Typical shooting distance?

Typical shooting distances range from roughly 100 to 400 yards. We take the time to ensure hunters are set up comfortably, shooting from a solid position and using equipment they trust, so every shot can be taken cleanly and confidently.

Can I bow hunt it?

Yes, but it is one of the most challenging species with the bow. All of our guides are active bowhunters and know what’s required to close the distance on these animals.

What rifle/calibre do you recommend?

We recommend calibres from 6.5mm and up. If you plan to bring your own rifle, we’ll discuss the species beforehand and make sure your setup is appropriate. We also have mountain rifles available, all chambered in 7mm PRC.

What level of fitness do I require?

A medium to high level of fitness is required for this hunt. Limited road access in many areas means hiking from lower elevations into higher mountain terrain.

“Pure class from beginning to end… Out in the fresh air amongst unique and protected animals whilst being spoilt and waited on 24/7. I felt so recharged and blessed to have found a haven like this… to support such a great endeavour of conservation.”
