Fallow Deer hunting country

Hunting in Spain

Fallow Deer

During the rut, fallow deer hunts revolve around locating active bucks holding rutting stands and listening for their distinctive grunts as they move between does. Much of the hunt is spent glassing and moving quietly through the finca, then working in on foot to close the distance once a mature buck is identified.

Hunting fallow during the rut is fast-paced and highly engaging, often involving short, careful stalks and quick decisions as bucks move constantly between cover and open ground. It’s an exciting style of hunting that rewards patience, timing, and a good understanding of fallow behaviour.

Good to know

Questions, answered

Typical shooting distance?

Typical shooting distances range from roughly 100 to 400 yards. We take the time to ensure hunters are set up comfortably, shooting from a solid position and using equipment they trust, so every shot can be taken cleanly and confidently.

Can I bow hunt it?

Yes, absolutely. The finca is setup for bowhunting for either spot and stalk or in blinds over waterpoints. All of our guides are active bowhunters and know what’s required to close the distance on these animals.

What rifle/calibre do you recommend?

We recommend calibres from 6.5mm and up. If you plan to bring your own rifle, we’ll discuss the species beforehand and make sure your setup is appropriate. We also have mountain rifles available, all chambered in 7mm PRC.

What level of fitness do I require?

The hunt can be adapted to what suits you best as the Finca has lower and flatter areas as well as steep cliffs and deep dense valleys. A low-medium fitness level is required for this hunt.

“This property has to be one of the most beautiful places on earth. Views from the rooms and terrace are amazing… Great traditional Spanish food, giving you a real taste of the area… we stayed in the Lynx room which was fantastic.”
