Red Stag hunting country

Hunting in Spain

Red Stag

During the rut, red deer hunting is driven by sound and movement. The day often starts by covering ground and listening for stags roaring from ridges, valleys, and thick cover. Once a dominant stag is located, the hunt becomes about using terrain, wind, and timing to work in close as he moves between hinds and challenges rivals.

Rutting red deer hunts tend to unfold over longer periods, with stags constantly shifting position and responding to pressure. Success often comes from patience and reading behaviour rather than speed, making it a more deliberate and tactical style of hunting that fully captures the intensity of the rut.

Questions, answered

Typical shooting distance?

Typical shooting distances range from roughly 100 to 400 yards. We take the time to ensure hunters are set up comfortably, shooting from a solid position and using equipment they trust, so every shot can be taken cleanly and confidently.

Can I bow hunt it?

Yes, absolutely. The finca is setup for bowhunting for either spot and stalk or in blinds over waterpoints. All of our guides are active bowhunters and know what’s required to close the distance on these animals.

What rifle/calibre do you recommend?

We recommend calibres from 6.5mm and up. If you plan to bring your own rifle, we’ll discuss the species beforehand and make sure your setup is appropriate. We also have mountain rifles available, all chambered in 7mm PRC.

What level of fitness do I require?

The hunt can be adapted to what suits you best as the Finca has lower and flatter areas as well as steep cliffs and deep dense valleys. A low-medium fitness level is required for this hunt.

“This property has to be one of the most beautiful places on earth. Views from the rooms and terrace are amazing… Great traditional Spanish food, giving you a real taste of the area… we stayed in the Lynx room which was fantastic.”
